On Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio Lenore Ruth “Lenny” Ruby left this world to be in the hands of the Lord.

Lenore was born December 31, 1936 in South Amherst, Ohio to the late John H. and Carrie J. (Buchanan) Fahrney. At an extremely young age, Lenore’s father passed away unexpectedly. Her mother Carrie then remarried Robert E. Severns who he raised as his own daughter.

Lenore moved to Marion at the age of four. She graduated from Pleasant High School in 1954 and shortly after married the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Ruby, Sr. on May 22, 1954. Together they shared 62 years of marriage raising three children, caring for grandchildren and loving many great-grandchildren. A woman of faith, Lenore was a long time member of Berean Baptist Church.

Lenore was a loving wife who cared deeply for her family. She loved to travel especially when she could spend time by the water and beach. Lenore’s favorite place to visit was St. Maarten enjoying the beach and shopping. In later years Lenore and Dick would spend winters in Florida making lifelong friends.

Lenore is survived by three adoring children, Pamela L. (Roger) Smith of Marion, Richard E. (Connie) Ruby, Jr. of Sandusky, and Shari J. Roque of Marion; grandchildren, Jay Smith (Anessa Pounds), Josh (Angie) Smith, Nicole Salmon, Rich Ruby, Chris (Katy) Ruby, Ashley Ruby, Joey (Alex) Roque, and Danielle Roque (Scott Hosler); 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lenore is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Wayne (Nancy) Severns and beloved dog, Buddy.

The entire Ruby Family would like to thank all of the care givers, with a special thank you to Dr. Michael Hayes, Marion General Hospital, Riverside Hospital, Grant Hospital, and the Kobacker House for the wonderful care she received over the past year and a half.

A funeral service was held on September 26, 2016 at Berean Baptist Church with Pastors Chris Peria and Dr. Charles Reed officiating. Burial is in Marion Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Lenore’s honor to The American Diabetes Association or Berean Baptist Church.

Sorry for your loss. I would like to share Jesus promise of John 5:28,29 “Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.

To Dick, Pam, Rick and Shari My heart is heavy with grief for all of you. I know how much we will miss dear sweet Lenny. She is and will forever live on in our hearts. I am sorry I cannot be with you, but know I am there in spirit. I am so very glad I got to spend some time with her when I was there in July. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

So sorry to hear about Lenny. As a kid, I used to love it when my Mom (Ruth Winters) would run into Lenny and/or Dick, always such funny stories. Again, so sorry for your loss.

I was lucky enough to have been Lenny’s nurse during her stays at MGH. I often thought of her and would check in with Pam to see how she was doing. Such a sweet soul. My continued thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones.
