LAKE MARY, FL – Ronald L. “Ron” McClain, age 53, of Lake Mary, Florida, and formerly of Marion, died Saturday evening, April 18, 2009, at the Hospice House of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs, Florida, following nearly a three year battle with lymphoma.

On February 19, 1956, Ron was born in the Marion General Hospital, the son of Ruth (Kaufman) McClain of Marion, and the late William “Bill” McClain who preceded his son in death in 1998.
A graduate of Pleasant High School in the Class of 1974, Ron had enjoyed playing both the trumpet and the sousaphone in the high school band. Next, he went to the Ohio State University, where he would graduate with his bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering in 1978.

The day after graduating, Ron got in his car and drove to Lake Mary, Florida, where a job was waiting for him with the Siemens Corporation. During his nearly thirty year career there, Ron had been promoted to being a senior computer analyst. He looked forward to going to work every day, loving both his work and the new challenges he was constantly facing.

Ron was a charter member of the former Community United Methodist Church, now the Crosswood United Methodist Church.

An avid sports fan, Ron loved watching any sporting event he could. Though he especially enjoyed rooting for his alma mater, and knew he could always talk Buckeye sports with his brothers, who were also OSU alums.

Known for his extensive Department 56 collection, Ron was the first to know whenever a new item was available. He had an entire room dedicated to his unique collection.

Ron will be dearly missed by his mother, Ruth McClain of Marion; two brothers, Mark (Crystal) McClain of Bellefontaine, and Dale McClain of Columbus; four nieces, Madison, Macy and Meredith McClain, and Brianna Smith; and by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
The McClain family will greet friends from 2 – 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home. Services celebrating his life will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Crosswood United Methodist Church, 1551 Richland Rd., Marion, with Pastor Keith Luke officiating. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Crosswood United Methodist Church, or to the Hospice House of the Comforter, and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home.
