Marion, Ohio

Renee L. Potts, age 51 of Marion, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at the Southwest General Health Center in Middleburg Heights, Ohio.

Renee was born on July 15, 1964 in Chicago, the daughter of Fred R. and Carol (Lauer) Paulicka. Renee was a graduate of Berea High School. She received her undergraduate degree from Bowling Green State University and then went to obtain her law degree the University of Toledo. Renee spent many years serving as the Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Marion County and later on opened her own law firm. She always believed in people and gave everyone the benefit of the doubt, but that didn’t mean she didn’t check out a story and do a background check. She was firm but fair.

Renee had a very loving and generous heart, especially when it came to her daughter Miranda. She was a devoted mother that encouraged her daughter to dance, just as she once had. She promoted abstract thinking by engaging in arts and crafts and she had a gentle and patient way of laying a strong foundation for creating a bright future. She also loved the challenge of cooking without recipes, creating new dishes for her family to enjoy. She was always happy when she was able to go shopping. There was nothing that would ever slow Renee down, if she didn’t know how to do something, she would teach herself. She will be forever missed, but her legacy will continue to live on in the lives that she deeply touched.

She is survived by her beloved daughter Miranda Potts; her loving step-children: Jason (Julie) Potts, Greg (Jeanette) Potts and Danielle Potts; her devoted parents: Fred R. and Carol Paulicka and her ex-husband Dennis Potts.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center St., Marion from 4PM to 6:30PM; Celebration of Life services will immediately follow at 6:30 with Pastor Steve deWeber officiating; Burial will be held privately with the family present.

Your mom was an amazing woman of great integrity. Nothing made her face light up more than the mention of her cherished daughter. What a blessing it must have been to be her daughter, just as she was blessed to be your mom. There is no doubt her imprint on the world will continue through her influence in your life. Prayers continue for you and the entire family.

I met Renee through working for a counseling center in Marion. She was the attorney of several of my clients. She always took the time to talk with them and assure them that everything was going to be ok. She always took time in general to do what she could. To me Renee took care of the underdogs of the county. She always was there to give them the chance that they deserved or needed. I was saddened to see this today. My deepest thoughts, condolences and prayers go to the family of this wonderful woman. She will be missed by everyone.

Dear Miranda and Dennis,

It has been a few years since Renee helped me out of a very bad marriage and she was kind enough to give me an affordable rate. I remember commenting on her many photos of her daughter and I could tell what a proud and loving mother she was. I too was a single mother of one precious daughter so we could relate to each other in that delight. May she now be with angels in the presence of our Lord and Saviour and may she be experiencing true peace and joy as she smiles down on you both. May God put his loving arms around you at this sorrowful time and provide comfort knowing Renee is now in a better home.

God Bless!

OMG!!! I am speechless. I loved this lady with all I had.. I spent many days with her growing up through my teenage years in and out of her office.. She was my back bone through it all. I was just talking about her the other day 🙁 she was our prosecuting Attourney here in Marion approx 9 years ago.. She always went above and beyond her line of work, and was always there to listen. She gave people chances, when she didn’t have to.. She is the most loving kind hearted person ever.. She had a stern side to her 🙂 like I said being so young she protected me and my son through my teenage life. Was my back bone when I needed it the most. You are loved by many and missed by all. My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time.
